A weather week...

By the side of the house.

It's been a notable weather week - the sort of weather that pops immediately into all human conversations. What a week we've been having! One horribly hot blustery day, followed by cold wind and rain. Great for the garden, but...

No gardening, sorry. Oh dear. How will my garden feel about this? Answer : it probably won't even notice. Far too busy getting ready for autumn. Dropping its leaves, doing its best to look mellow, and so on.

Friday March 21st

Took two lovely visitors around the garden this afternoon. Lots of fun. We kept starting off down paths and then having to backtrack (oops) - felled tree branches and logs, shrub prunings, or sprawling rose canes would be blocking our way. Plus the occasional pile of firewood logs which I need to shift. Must remember to do this.

After numerous path mishaps I then started apologising for the gum leaves which are piling up everywhere, especially on the driveway and the lawns. Too silly. I didn't need to do this.

Periwinkle :
Such a pretty pet name. Vinca Major is its proper name, and yes - some folk do consider it a weed.

One friend particularly liked the periwinkle wilderness. Yeay! I love her! Usually I hear myself apologising for periwinkle - not this time. I just smiled and took the compliment. I love periwinkle, but I try (!) to keep it under 'sustained control'.

Saturday 22nd March

Finally! I'm back on track. Have done three hours of weeding and trimming, mainly in the Hump Garden. Dug up some Agapanthus which were hidden underneath a Phormium, replanted them in the Driveway Garden. Pulled out lots of weedy grass clumps. Am looking forward to going apres-gardening.

Brilliant plants to fill in large spaces.

All the trimmings are in huge piles on the fence-line and underneath the hedges. The big autumn clean-up gardening has somewhat stalled : I've been waiting for fire ban to be lifted so I can crank up the bonfire. Then and only then will I sweep up all the gum leaves, clean up the driveway properly, and move all the dead tree trimmings.

Easy to rake up - but then more blow down!
