A feature article?

As well as rambling paths and over-grown borders, my garden does have some proper features, worthy of note : wee stone retaining walls, wooden bridges, a Koru shaped brick courtyard, a Herb Spiral, and so on. I need to make features of these lovely features. Write a feature article, perhaps?

Trouble is, they're not always 'featureable'. Maybe the wee stone walls, which look so good when visible, are covered in vegetation. And the brick Herb Spiral always needs cleaning up.

Blessed...

I'm blessed to have water features in my garden. There's a beautiful (and quite large) irrigation pond in the trees, home to hoards of red-hatted garden gnomes. Now these chaps are definitely exciting features for some. Others try and ignore their existence...But the feature that I love the most is my cute little garden cottage by the pond. It's called Pond Cottage, and has a bed, an armchair, and a bookcase in it. So sweet!

A water race, with fresh flowering water from the nearby river, runs right through my garden. The race is lined with Phormiums and ferns, and crossed by several bridges.

The Water Race

It's easy to trim the pushy Gunnera leaves which might make Willow Bridge impassable, or stand with cold wet feet in the water race to chop down the excess ferns. I just need to remember to do these things. Not to mention removing the tree branches which have fallen on top of the gnomes by the pond. Ouch!

Me Relaxing in the Rustic Courtyard

To be 'featureable', garden features need to be a regular part of a garden maintenance plan. Then they can provide beautiful photographs all year round, and delight any visitors. I'm the kind of gardener who is always losing her gardening maintenance hat. So where did I leave it this time? Outside the glass-house? On the rustic garden bench in the Shrubbery? All the features in my garden are amazing to me, even if sometimes they look a bit unkempt. I can use my imagination, and at least I know where to look! I can gaze at the pond, sit on the cottage verandah, walk around the Herb Spiral, wobble gracefully over the bridges... Love them all.
