Messy or busy?

 name? Not sure.
Old Rose in Stables Garden

Have done it again. Was out early with the camera and the dogs, and yet again the mess in my garden overshadowed the beauty. I wish this wouldn't happen. Perhaps it's a morning thing? Or is 'busy' a better word for 'messy'?

Wednesday 20th November

So I've just spent a torrid (?) hour in the bright sun clearing the path into the Hump Garden. Oh joy. Too much Alkanet.

Wonderful bee food...

I remind myself that this is wonderful bee food. And too much Campion. The bees also love this, and I remind myself that I gush and coo over the pretty pink flowers earlier in spring.

Not to run into any garden trouble...

It's just that sometimes - even just once - I'd love to wander around innocently with my camera and not run into any garden trouble. But this only happens when one has staff, right?

So I have cleared through the archway underneath Autumn Sunset, up to where the large pink dahlias flower. They are in green growth stage, almost knee-high. I've pulled out Cleavers, older Campion plants, and annual Forget-me-nots. I've stripped the seeds off Honesty and scattered them over the soil.

Messy or busy?

This whole garden could either be described as messy or busy. I'd like to choose the latter! And this may sound very mean-spirited, but I want some cloud cover to hide the sun. Then I will get back out there. It's worth it. Yes? YES!!!!!!!

Later...

I cleared some more mess. But it wasn't mess five weeks ago - it was a mass of pretty pink and blue flowers. Another way of looking at things. If it wasn't mess five weeks ago, then how can it be mess now? Carefully carrying an armful of stuff out of the path I then tripped over a bucket. Kerplunk! Landed in middle of a pink Grootendoorst rose. Ouch! Picked the broken branches for the house vases and retreated, feeling slightly silly.

 A rather thorny rugosa!

When some clouds very kindly covered up the sun, I went back outside to plant more of my seedlings. Didn't last. Rain! Big, blobby, heavy rain. So lovely for the garden.

A grand gardening day...

Apart from mistaking a pumpkin (Marina di Chioggia) for a courgette (Costata Romanesco, the best courgette ever) and planting it in a patio pot, I've had a grand gardening day. But my mess is still out there. Oops. Whatever!
