mcgTV Garden Television Help

mcgTV went live at the end of 2004 and allows Mooseys Country Garden to bring high quality garden video and sound to your screen.

mcgTV thumbnails have a small mcgTV logo in the lower right corner. mcgTV garden video clips are listed in directories as video files. The length of the clip and file size in kb are also listed.

We've been collecting footage from gardens and gardening events around the world and will be launching new channels regularly. Check the mcgTV Garden Channel listings for more details.

Macromedia Flash Player 7 Required

You'll need Macromedia's Flash Player 7 installed to be able to watch mcgTV. While we're sorry about this limitation; it allows us to keep the file sizes to a minimum and make cross browser support Macromedia's problem (rather than ours).

Get the latest free flash player. Download the flash 7 player from Macromedia

Pretty Flash Video

mcgTV uses a progressive video file format to enable you to view the footage as you download it without requiring a streaming server. The video footage is 320*240 pixels in size and most clips are less than 30 seconds long.

The video footage comes from Eggy's S7000 Fujifilm Digital garden camera and a JVC MV700 MiniDV camcorder and is compressed into the .FLV flash video format.

mcgTV Player Guide

the mcgTV interface is minimal and mimics the way we display images throughout the site. The controls are basic, a play / pause button and a slider. There is no volume control.

 Close-up of the video controls.
  1. Play / Pause button: Toggles between play   and pause  . When an mcgTV garden video clip is playing the pause button is displayed. If the video clip is paused, the play button will be shown.
  2. Viewed: The dark grey area to the left of the track slider show video footage you have already viewed.
  3. Track Slider: This sliding button shows where you are in the current video and allows you to position yourself anywhere in the clip.
  4. Buffered: The light grey line in front of the slider shows how much of the clip you have downloaded to your PC.
  5. Remaining: The dark grey area to the right of lighter buffer bar shows how much of the file still needs to be downloaded.
  6. mcgTV: Clicking on the ever-present mcgTV logo will take you to the mcgTV Home & Channel Guide.
  7. Rewind / Back Button: Rewinds to the beginning of the video clip.

Sound Gardening

mcgTV footage includes a medium quality sound channel, enough to capture bubbling water features and horticultural show hubbub. Audio quality can be increased to suit the content. The quality of the audio channel can be altered to suit - Moosey's often-mentioned 'Music to Garden To' album is now a distinct possibility.
