Textures

The Apple Tree Border used to be my foliage and texture garden. I deliberately planted golden coloured plants in here to contrast with the strong green hostas.

Foliage plantings always look great in photographs, too.
a study in texture - from the archives

The Choisya Sundance in this early photograph was quite small - it was in a sunny spot and its leaves got badly sunburnt. It has become a favourite shrub of mine, and has now been shifted sideways into more shade. The New Zealand hybrid flax to the left is a small version of Yellow Wave. It too has grown quite a lot!

Golden Colour

I also used to grow yellow annual Antirhynums close to the stone edge. Their colour blended well with the neighbouring lime green Nicotiana Llansdorffs and the golden shrubs.

The Apple Tree Border still has a golden theme, which these yellow annuals used to contribute to. There's no room for annual flowers now, though!
